Monday Message (jan 23)

Dear Psychology Students, Alums, Faculty, Staff, and Supporters,

Happy New Year and welcome to a new term on the campus. It's an exciting time to be alive - there is much going on and much to do. Our theme for this academic year has been "we are in this together." We are all doing our best to develop our skills to support and understand one another. It's not easy. It takes listening, patience, empathy, perspective-taking, gentleness, and more. And it takes continued practice. Here's to making mistakes and continuing to try to work and learn in this imperfect world.

On that note, Professor Snapp asked me to share a document and petition to ask President Ochoa to support and protect undocumented students. Read more here and sign if you would like to support the effort .

Another way to support each other is to observe signs of distress and step in to help if you can and if it is wanted. Students in Psy 321 last term made short videos to address certain issues and here's one on anxiety.

And finally, I think communication is part of supporting each other. I will do my best to keep you updated on the goings-on in the department, campus, and community that might be of interest to you.

To keep most up-to-date be sure you're plugged into at least one of these:

1. Chair's Blog at http://csumbpsy.blogspot.com/

3. Facebook (search csumb psychology)

4. Remind.com Click here to join. Get texts or emails (you set up the notifications) of when we post important information.

And please communicate with me. Please don't hesitate to email me or drop by my office Heron 150 (office hours on Tuesdays, 10a-noon) to chat.

Until next week (look for these emails each Monday - I was late this week - imperfection - a beautiful thing),

Dr. Dyer
